Behind the Lens: Crafting an Ecomm Studio Shoot for Luxury Swimwear Brand Sommer Swim in Bali

Hey everyone, Glen here – your go-to Bali-based swimwear photographer with a passion for capturing that effortless tropical vibe. If you’ve been following my work, you know I thrive on blending fashion, beauty, and the island’s magic into stunning visuals. Recently, I had the absolute pleasure of shooting and producing an ecomm studio shoot for the international luxury swimwear brand, Sommer Swim. As a professional swimwear photographer in Bali, these projects are always a highlight, and this one was no exception. Let me take you behind the scenes of this sleek, studio-based campaign that brought Sommer Swim’s minimalist designs to life for their online store.

Discovering Sommer Swim: A Brand That Screams European Elegance

For those unfamiliar, Sommer Swim is a high-end swimwear label founded by Anna-Maria Sommer, drawing inspiration from those chic European summer lifestyles we all dream about.  Think ultra-minimal bikinis, sleek one-pieces, and glossy finishes crafted from the finest Italian Lycra – perfect for jet-setters who want to feel confident and unapologetic on the beach or by the pool.   Their mission is all about empowering women through swimwear that’s powerful, flattering, and sustainably produced.   As an experienced Bali swimwear photographer, I’ve worked with numerous brands, but Sommer Swim’s sultry, modern aesthetic really resonated with my style – that raw, honest capture of beauty in simple settings.

When the team at Sommer Swim reached out for an ecommerce-focused shoot, I was stoked. Ecomm photography is all about creating clean, high-quality images that drive sales online, and doing it in a Bali studio allows for that controlled environment while infusing a touch of island warmth.

Setting the Scene: My Bali Studio as the Perfect Backdrop

We opted for a studio shoot right here in Bali to keep things precise and versatile – ideal for ecomm swimwear photography where every detail, from fabric texture to fit, needs to pop on screen. My studio setup is designed for these kinds of projects: soft natural light filtering in, paired with professional strobes to highlight the glossy sheen of Sommer Swim’s pieces. No distracting beaches or waves this time – just pure focus on the product and the model’s energy.

I produced the entire shoot, from concept to final edits, collaborating closely with the brand to align on mood boards that emphasized minimalism and sensuality. We shot a range of their skimpy bikinis and one-pieces, ensuring the images were optimized for online retail: multiple angles, close-ups on straps and cuts, and lifestyle-inspired poses that make shoppers envision themselves in the pieces.
