Ecomm Studio Magic: Shooting on 35mm Film with Aisha Katerina for Australian Swim Label ELCE in Bali
Hey, it’s Glen – your Bali-based fashion and swimwear photographer. There’s something timeless about shooting on film, especially when you’re creating clean ecomm images that need to feel real and elevated at the same time. Recently, I had the joy of doing just that: an ecomm studio shoot for the beautiful Australian label ELCE Swim with the stunning Bali-based model Aisha Katerina.
ELCE is all about conscious, thoughtfully designed women’s swimwear – elevated bikinis, supportive one-pieces, and resort pieces made to last, crafted in premium fabrics with timeless silhouettes. Designed in Australia but with that effortless island-ready vibe, their collections are perfect for women who want confidence, comfort, and style that transitions from beach to everyday.
Aisha Katerina was the ideal collaborator for this. With her natural glow, poise, and that magnetic presence she’s known for (from collabs with brands like Fae Swim and Gooseberry Intimates), she brought the pieces to life effortlessly. We shot in my Bali studio: controlled lighting, clean white seamless backdrops for pure product focus, plus a few soft, natural-light setups to add warmth and depth.
The twist? We captured everything on 35mm film. Shooting film for ecomm adds this organic texture – subtle grain, rich colors, and that analog authenticity that digital can sometimes miss. It gives the images a premium, editorial edge while still delivering the crisp, shop-ready angles brands need: front/back views, close-ups on straps and hardware, fit details, and subtle movement shots. The film process slows things down just enough to make every frame intentional, and Aisha’s ease in front of the lens made the whole day flow beautifully.
We kept the energy light – good tunes, fresh coconuts, quick breaks – and the results feel fresh, flattering, and true to ELCE’s conscious-luxury ethos. These shots are now powering their online store, helping showcase the quality and fit in a way that feels genuine and aspirational.
